DAY TWO - SHOVING OFF - TORTOLA TO MARINA CAY
The new crew got to sleep in at Village Cay Marina while First Mate Anne and I hit up the local grocery store for provisions. Lots of staples and enough food for every breakfast on the boat, most lunches, and several dinners. Also stocked up on water, paper towels, toilet paper, ice, and munchies. Having asked the night before, we picked up a few bottles of local rum – a bottle of dark Cruzan from St. Croix, and a bottle of white Cane rum from Tortola’s own Callwood Rum Distillery. We met the rest of the crew at the boat dock and got our first glimpse of the Calypso, a 50-foot Beneteau sloop that would be our home for the next seven days. We loaded our provisions aboard for First Mate Anne to stow away while we went to the dock mate for the chart briefing. The dock mate informed us of some new restrictions that had taken place in just the last few months that would prevent anchorage on several private islands, but we were not planning on going to any of those. With our provisioins stowed and the Chart squared away, we were ready for the all important safety meeting aboard the Calypso.
