Island Hoppers’ founder, Captain Glen Martin, was a co-owner in one of the largest, most successful sailing schools in the British Virgin Islands. For years he sailed these waters teaching old and young, new and seasoned, the joys and secrets of the Caribbean. While his experience and business grew, so did his desire for the adventure of open water, of pristine beaches, of forgotten shores, and places where land and water have escaped the over-worn paths of cruise ships and weekend junkets. Captain Glen saw the need for a new kind of service: one that didn’t take you forward into this new age of pre-packaged tours with regimented meals and regimented sights. He saw the need to go back, to simplify, to re-invent what drove us to the sea in the beginning, exploration and discovery. Thus Island Hoppers was born.
A Lifetime Experience with an Experienced Skipper
We are a fun-loving, easy going crew whose purpose is to give you an experience in the Caribbean that is fresh, unique, surprising and above all, memorable. We do this by seeking out the rare and unusual. Of course our journeys do take us to famous landmarks, along historical and local hotspots. Did you know the childhood classic, Treasure Island, is real and located in the Virgin Isles? Your visit would not be complete without a taste of Caribbean flare only the Caribbean can offer. But, we also anchor offshore in less traveled waters like the island of Anegada with its secluded beaches and breath-taking seascape. It takes local knowledge to navigate this spectacular reef island which provides an abundance of shellfish. Each day starts with a plan, but can spontaneously change with the weather, the mood, or your whim: a true explorer’s paradise.
If this is whetting your appetite for a little adventure, wait until you have a look at the feasts you will be served on our trip! Capt. Glen and crew mixes it up in the galley creating island favorites and gourmet sensations for your dining pleasure. Typically guests are served breakfast, lunch, hor d’oeuvres, and an occasional dinner. Of course, libations are not only provided but highly recommended. Other evening meals are available at the many savory island restaurants from lean-to beach huts to gourmet restaurants each of which offer truly unique dining experiences. Surprises await you even when it comes to eating.
